Volunteer Opportunities ------------------------------ ----
Volunteer Highlights

Interfaith Community Council has the following needs at its 702 E. Market location.

+ Experienced Word Processors or those with Data Entry experience. We have daily data entry needs. Accurate input is needed.

+ Receptionists/Telephone People: A pleasant phone voice and cheerful demeanor will help the person in thsi position. Our clients need lots of smiles. They are hurting.

+ People who are able to screen applicants and can sometimes say "no".

Those mentioned above work 1/2 day shifts from 9-12:30 and 12:30-4. Those below work from 9:30-12:30. Typically, people work one day each week.

+ Food Pantry Workers: sometimes a strong back is needed, but not required.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We also need:

+ On-Call Unloaders to assist with unloading food deliveries and to stack and sort food. A strong back is required.

+ We are also actively seeking someone who can schedule volunteers from his/her home.

If any of these positions appeal to you, please call Angela or Carol at 812-948-9248.

LifeSpan Resources needs a couple of volunteers to work 4 hours each week helping seniors with their Medicare D enrollment.  Volunteers will use a website to help seniors determine which plan best suits their needs.  This must be reviewed every year because the pharmaceutical companies change their prescription drug plans and seniors experience changes in their health and financial status.

3.2.1. Read in Clark County and the Study Buddies program in Floyd County are both looking for volunteer mentors to match up with students for 45 minutes of one-on-one support each week.  The Clark County program works with first graders; Study Buddies with K - 3rd grade.  Clark has 10 schools; Floyd concentrates its work at the Children's Academy.  Both provide training and require volunteers to submit to a background check.

Check out the Corporation for National and Community Service Get Involved web site to find helpful tips on finding the opportunity that best suits your interest, conducting searches to find community organizations in need of your specific skills, and interviewing organizations with which you are volunteering.
